1- Scrum Team Is A Self-organized Team

Every member in a Scrum Team :

  • doesn’t need to be managed by someone
  • has the disciplines and qualifications to organize and achieve the work
  • knows the best way to contribute to building and delivering the project

Scrum Team members don’t need someone to tell them what to do, what tasks to achieve, where to start or how to priorities different tasks. So they don’t depend on anyone out of the team. They have direct communication with the customer through the Product Owner.

2- Scrum Team Is A Cross-Functional Team

Scrum Team has 3 roles :

  • Scrum Master
  • Product Owner
  • Development Team

The Scrum Master is responsible for applying Scrum in the team and make sure all members are aligned with it.

The Product Owner is responsible for managing product backlogs and working closely with the development team to maximize the value of their work.

The Development Team will build the increment (a piece of the product) and deliver it at the end of the sprint. They also arrange a meeting every day called a Daily Scrum to keep all developers updated and on the same page throughout the sprint.

The “Development” word in the development team doesn’t refer to software development. It refers to product development.

The development team includes all the specialists needed to build the product. Sales, marketers, creative designers, software developers, and any other need major are together one team.

So Scrum Team will span across different departments in a traditional organization.

3- Development Team Size is 3 to 9

According to the Scrum Guide, the development team shouldn’t be too small because it will not have enough capabilities to build and deliver.

It shouldn’t also be too large because this will add more complexity to the team.

The recommended size is between 3 to 9 for development team.

Final word!

Individuals and interactions over processes and tools

Agile Manifesto

It goes without saying that building a good team is the responsibility of the organization. It should invest in its individuals, delegate authority to them, trust them, and improve the work environment that helps to apply the agile principals and frameworks like Scrum.

On the other hand, It’s also your responsibility to improve your skills and try to lead the change in your team.

So start with yourself!

Give Scrum Framework a try, read about it and try practicing it in your team. The right administration that intends to improve its business will notice the difference that you made, and it can adopt the change decision more strongly.

Some administrations can’t change for many reasons that are out of this humble blog post’s scope. If you are facing this dilemma, then no doubt by investing in yourself, you will have enough capabilities to go to a better place.

So start with yourself

And I wish you the best.
